Rabbits are very social creatures, which is why it’s so important to make sure pet rabbits have companions. Unfortunately, 57% of the pet rabbits in the UK are living alone and their owners are not aware of the suffering this causes their pet. RAW are working to help change the lives of pet rabbits with their #BuddiesforBunnies campaign and we’re behind them all the way.
How You Can Help
If you have a single rabbit, or you’re considering buying or adopting a rabbit, one of the kindest things you can do is buy a pair. Ideally, you’ll have the opportunity to buy both at the same time and they will already be friends with one another (don’t forget to visit the vets as soon as possible so the rabbits can be sexed and neutering can be organised). If you already have a rabbit living alone you’ll need to carefully pair your rabbit with a new friend. Make sure that both the rabbits are neutered and introduce the to each other on neutral ground – an area that is new to each rabbit. You’ll also need to ensure that the housing you have is big enough for both of the rabbits, bearing in mind that bunnies will grow into adults.
