I have a 6ft Kendal rabbit hutch. I bought the cover to go with it, but as it only covers the top part of the hutch, it doesn’t do much good in really bad weather. I would love to purchase a cover that would cover the hutch and run section completely so I can make sure that my rabbits are warm and dry.

All our hutch covers will cover the hutch whether its a single or double, we do not do rain covers for Rabbit or Guinea Pig runs.

The Kendal Hutch and Run Hutch Cover cover the hutch only because of several reasons.

  1. Unlike the hutch roofs which are angled to allow rainwater to run off, the run has a flat roof; this isn’t a problem as rainwater falls between the gaps in the wire mesh. However, if you were to cover the top of any of our runs, then when it rains it will collect and start to push down on the run causing damage.
  2. Most of our runs can attach to our hutches; you can attach the Chatwell Hutches to the run with the doors left open. The Kendal range is similar in the way that your pets can quickly go out or in when they want. Meaning the option is there and down to the individual pet if they wish to go outside.

We feel giving your pets the freedom to go outside when they want with a run attached is the best trade off.

If however, you want to provide still an outdoor area that’s dry even though it’s raining then you could erect a large canopy that is pitched in the middle or slanted to one side over the run area.

Something like this pitched rain tarp might be of use.

Covers for apex hutches?

We currently don’t offer any covers for Apex Hutches.

Hi, we are looking to buy the 5ft Chartwell hutch. I just wanted to clarify that when you order it including the cover and insulation – does it come with the two separate covers (one for insulation and the other the wind and rain cover)?

Yes, the covers are two separate items and have different purposes.

The Hutch Hugger is a rain and wind cover and is a water-resistant cover that repels the rain and covers the front of the hutch stopping wind and water getting in.

The Hutch Snuggle is an insulation layer that fits underneath the rain cover and is there to help regulate the temperature throughout the year. It’s the primary role, however, is to provide insulation in the colder months although it can prevent overheating in the summer too.

We would always recommend that you regularly check on your pet’s home for temperature changes to make sure they have enough bedding or the hutch is getting too hot.

Do the rabbit hutch covers have a front opening for feeding etc ?

All our covers have a rolled upfront. They are rolled up by hand from the bottom to the top. Then fix in place using the velcro straps provided.

Depending on the weather, you should leave the font up to allow in fresh air and sunlight. However, it starts to rain you should monitor the situation or if you are going out, you might have to roll the front of the cover down and secure it before you leave.

Hello, I need a cover for a house that is a different shape and size, do you happen to know where i can get one made?

For bespoke cover sizes, you can try www.scratchandnewton.com they have a large number of covers available that might suite and they also do bespoke sizes.

If buying the wind and rain hutch hugger, do we also need the insulation cover for warmth?

The insulation cover is to be used to help regulate the temperature in the summer months and help keep warm air inside the hutch in the winter.

If you feel that your pets could help form insulating the hutch, then we would recommend an insulation cover.

We would also recommend making sure that there is enough fresh bedding inside the hutch so your pets can create a warm bedding area. This and insulation will see off even the coldest months.

Hi, looking at getting a guinea pig hutch and wanted a cover but a bit confused as what the cover and insulator are, are they the same thing or different?

Please could you let me know if i can access the hutch through the roof with the cover on? I do most of the cleaning from above. Also is it the same for the Insulator cover? Thanks

None of our hutches roofs open, because Rabbits are predominantly prey animals they don’t like being approached from above, so none of ours open.

Our covers also have the top fixed and access is only available through the front by rolling up the front of the cover.

Does the 6ft kendal hutch hugger cover any of the run at the bottom?

No, All our hutch covers will cover the hutch whether its a single, double or from theKendal range cover the underside run.

The Kendal Hutch and Run Hutch Cover cover the hutch only because of several reasons.

Hi would the 5ft hugger double fit a 5ft 3 cage Please or will I have to get the 6ft cover

The 5ft Double Hutch Cover will most likely be too small, the 6ft will fit but be baggy and will need to be tied down to prevent too much flapping around when windy.

You could contact www.scratchandnewton.com and discuss your requirements; they offer an extensive range of sizes and provide a bespoke service.

Hi please can you tell me if the hutch hugger for the 5ft Kendal double hutch with run has a cover to go over the front of the cage? Does the cover hang down the back of the hutch and cover the run at the back?

The Kendal Hutch Cover only covers the Hutch section and not the run in any way.

Do the rabbit hutch covers have a front opening for feeding etc ?

All the Hutch Covers have a see-through PVC front that rolls up and is fixed in place by velcro straps. With the front up you can gain entry to the front of the hutch.

The front can be left up to allow fresh air and sunlight in, overnight in case of rain we would advise that you roll it back down and fix it in place with the velcro straps provided.

Hello, will your run shades offer some rain protection too:?

It will repel the rain for a short time, if it’s a brief shower, then it will dry off soon enough.

However wee would recommend not using the Run Shade as any protection against the rain for the reasons below:

  1. The run roofs are flat if the rain persists then the water will pool and the weight will push down and can cause damage to the run.
  2. If pooling persists, it will eventually soak through the material as it is water-resistant only and not waterproof.
