Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

Can my rabbits stay in the run overnight or while I'm out?

No — a run is for supervised daytime exercise only. Whenever you can't keep an eye on them, your rabbits should be locked in a secure hutch with a deep sleeping area. The run gives them space to stretch their legs and graze by day; the hutch keeps them safe at night and whenever you're away.

Does the run connect to my Chartwell hutch?

Yes — our Chartwell runs are designed to pair with our 5ft and 6ft Chartwell hutches, so your rabbits can move between the hutch and the run during the day. Each run lists which hutches it suits, so check the product page for the right match, or drop us a message and we'll confirm the fit.

Is the run fox-proof or predator-proof?

No run is, and we'd never claim otherwise — a determined fox can't be reliably kept out by any run. That's why a run is for supervised daytime use, with your rabbits returned to a secure, locked hutch at night and whenever you're not watching. The run is exercise space, not overnight protection.

What size run should I choose?

We offer 4ft, 5ft and 6ft runs in Large and XL, plus longer 6ft x 3ft and 12ft x 3ft options. As a rule, go as big as your garden allows — rabbits need room to take several hops in a row. Match the run to your hutch and the space you have, and remember the run adds to, rather than replaces, their hutch.

Will my rabbits dig out of the run?

The open bottom lets them graze on grass, but rabbits are natural diggers, so the run should only be used while you're supervising — never left unattended. Set it on level ground you can watch, peg it down, or place it on a hard surface with bedding if digging becomes a problem.

What's the difference between the Large and XL runs?

The XL runs are taller, giving your rabbits more headroom to stand up fully on their back legs, while the Large runs are our standard height. Both come in 4ft, 5ft and 6ft footprints — so choose XL if headroom matters most, or Large for a slightly lower-profile run.

Can my rabbits graze on the grass in the run?

Yes — the open base lets them nibble fresh grass, one of their favourite things to do. If a patch gets grazed down or they start to dig, move the run to a fresh area of lawn where you can, giving them clean grazing and saving your grass.

Is the run suitable for outdoor use in British weather?

The timber is weather-treated and the mesh galvanised to stand up to the elements, but a run isn't a shelter — your rabbits still need their hutch for cover, plus a shady spot in summer as rabbits can overheat. Re-treat the timber once or twice a year to keep it protected.

How easy is it to put together?

The runs arrive as pre-built panels that bolt together and connect to your hutch — most people manage it in well under an hour, ideally with a second pair of hands. No specialist tools needed.

Delivery, returns and guarantee?

Our Chartwell runs are handmade in Britain and delivered free to the UK mainland on orders over £100, backed by our 90-day no-quibble returns and a 2-year guarantee on parts — so you can order with complete confidence.

What People Are Saying...

Wonderful product & great company

It was such a great experience!

I was concerned that it would not be possible for me, an 82yr old lady,no good at DIY. to put it together - but it just needed a Philips screwdriver and it was easy!

They were so helpful with advice and instruction and wow - British made - wonderful - superb bird feeder and cheap!

Both the hutch and run are fantastic

We purchased the 6ft Chartwell Double Rabbit Hutch along with the 6ft Heavy Duty Rabbit Run with Burrow Portal and Tunnel for our two rabbits.

Both the hutch and run are fantastic – excellent quality, very spacious for our bunnies, and easy to clean.

Thanks again, James!

Best hutches around

Best hutches and cat hideouts around I was led to believe when buying flat pack cages that they would all break in a month or so which is normally been the case.

But since using home and roost with them being A British made company everything Is a lot better quality all the panels are solid they are easy to put together but we definitely ordering more from you in the future❤️

We are extremely impressed with the service and products from Home & Roost. We were in urgent need of our new hutch, so upon speaking with customer service.

They arranged to send our hutch on an order separate to the rest of our ordered items, at no extra charge!.

High quality item with high quality service

Initial issue with delivery date, but this was sorted quickly and professionally. The catio is well made and survived all the storms we’ve had in the recent months - it never moved.

The quality is much higher than others I’ve seen, I would definitely recommend purchasing from them.
Excellent product and excellent service.

All Round Great Company

I ordered the wrong hutch (I wanted a double but ordered the 2 tier) and also without realising I ordered the wrong size vinyl flooring.

The warehouse staff anticipated I had made a mistake with the flooring size and sent the one I needed.

The after sales service was excellent with helping me get the hutch I wanted

Couldn’t fail this company

Their website, delivery, instructions everything was beyond perfect. Note, wood is very strong so you will need a small drill. Can do by screwdriver though not recommended.

Hutch is beautiful and especially the design. Definitely using this company over pets at home from now on, wish I knew of you guys earlier!

Great product and fantastic customer service

Brilliant to find a Made in Britain company. I can be pretty sure that the making processes will do least harm to the environment, help protect our wildlife and countryside, and support local UK businesses.

Something made in China probably fails to meet any ethical standards that we consider vital . Well done Home and Roost. I'll be back!

Solid well-made hutch

The order process was straightforward - initially, the hutch was shown as back-ordered, but it was fulfilled and dispatched earlier than the website said.

Regular updates for the delivery - so I was able to reschedule to a convenient date.

Service and professionalism

Great product and keenly priced, swift dispatch, but let down by the courier, who managed to damage a key component.

A quick email exchange of some photos and Alan and his team had a replacement on its way the same day!!

I cannot fault the service and professionalism of Home & Roost.
