Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

Is it really escape-proof?

The four sides plus a mesh roof are fully enclosed, with a lockable door and a secure latch. The welded galvanised mesh has no flex for cats or rabbits to push through. Most owners use it as their pet's safe outdoor space with confidence — but no outdoor enclosure is 100% escape-proof, and we'd never claim otherwise.

Will it keep foxes and other predators out?

The welded galvanised mesh is far stronger than the thin chicken wire on cheap imported runs — foxes can bend chicken wire, they can't bend this. The fully enclosed roof closes off climb-in routes too. We won't promise 100% fox-proof (nothing outdoors ever is), but it removes the easy ways in. For overnight, secure indoor housing or a hutch is still the right place.

Will it survive a British winter?

Yes. The galvanised mesh resists rust through wet seasons, and the timber frame is built for year-round outdoor use. A light annual re-treatment with a pet-safe wood preserver keeps it looking sharp for years. For cats and rabbits in colder months, pair it with a sheltered indoor area or insulated house placed inside the enclosure.

What size should I choose?

For one or two cats the 3ft × 6ft sizes are spacious. Multi-cat households, owners who want to spend time inside with their pet, or rabbit/chicken keepers should size up to 6ft × 6ft or 6ft × 9ft. The 7.2ft-tall options give comfortable walk-in clearance for taller adults. Floor space matters, but so does height — cats use vertical room as much as ground area.

Will my cat actually use it?

Most do, within days. The fresh air, new smells, and wildlife watching are hard for a cat to resist. For nervous or older cats, leave the door open at first and put familiar bedding, treats, or toys inside. A slow start is normal — once they've sat outside on a warm afternoon, the habit tends to stick.

Do I need planning permission?

For most gardens, no. UK permitted development typically covers structures under 2.5m tall, not at the front of the property, and not covering more than half the garden. If you're in a listed building, conservation area, or close to a boundary, check with your local planning authority before ordering.

Can I use it for rabbits, chickens, or aviary birds instead of cats?

Yes — it's designed to suit any of them. For hens it works as a daytime run paired with a secure coop for nights. For rabbits it pairs with a hutch as their overnight home. For aviary birds, the enclosed roof and welded mesh keep them safely in and predators out. We don't recommend any of these animals being left in unattended overnight.

How long does assembly take?

Most pairs build it in 3–5 hours. Panels arrive pre-drilled with the mesh attached and step-by-step instructions included. Two people and basic tools (a drill or screwdriver) make it straightforward. The larger sizes go faster with a third pair of hands.

How does delivery work and how long will it take?

Production takes 7–10 working days in our Kent workshop, then it ships flat-packed on a wooden pallet via professional haulage — free to mainland UK. You'll need to dispose of the pallet yourself. See our catio collection for matching shelves and safety porches.

Can I move it or extend it later?

Yes to moving — the four-sided design is freestanding, so it lifts and relocates within the garden (handy when re-turfing or repositioning). It isn't a modular system with snap-on extension panels, but pairing with a Wingham safety porch gives you a secure airlock entry for skittish pets.
