DESCRIPTION

🐇 Welfare-grade space, properly walk-in

The RWAF welfare minimum for a bonded pair of rabbits is 3m × 2m × 1m. The Oxford Retreat's run section is 3.66m × 1.83m × 1.83m — comfortably over guideline, with room to binky genuinely. Walk-in standing height means daily care happens at full posture; no bending, no awkward reaching.

🏠 Lockable hutch built in, not bolted on

Inside the run is a 6ft raised hutch with a fully enclosed, lockable landing platform. Rabbits move between levels on a 1.7m ramp with integrated safety banister — gentle enough for older rabbits. By dusk, you lock them in; properly secure overnight, no separate hutch purchase needed.

🇬🇧 Heavy-duty British build, made past the rot cycle

Handcrafted in our Kent workshop from 32mm × 32mm timber — significantly thicker than the 19mm frames common on cheap imports. Pet-safe TIMBAC® preservative protects the wood. Galvanised welded mesh (stronger than chicken wire). Quad doors for full daily-cleaning access. Insulated weatherproof roof, passive ventilation, clear viewing window.

What People Are Saying About Us...

Wonderful product & great company

It was such a great experience!

I was concerned that it would not be possible for me, an 82yr old lady,no good at DIY. to put it together - but it just needed a Philips screwdriver and it was easy!

They were so helpful with advice and instruction and wow - British made - wonderful - superb bird feeder and cheap!

Excellent advice and customer service

We contacted Home & Roost for more information on what size cat house to buy and to find out more about microchip cat flaps. Alan responded quickly, was really friendly and provided great advice to help us decide on what to purchase.

The product is well made and the insulated pads in the floor and roof do help keep it warm inside.

We are really pleased with the product and service from Home & Roost and would definitely buy from them again and recommend them to others. Thank you Alan and team.

Buy with complete confidence

I purchased a cat house for a stray that had arrived on my property. I was kept informed about the delivery.

I contacted Home and Roost by email to request a return, they responded almost immediately and were very understanding, they arranged collection and return of the unopened item very quickly and easily for me.

The fact that these are made in the UK, not China like everything seems to be these days, so being able to support a British company was fantastic.

Best hutches and cat hideouts around

Best hutches and cat hideouts around I was led to believe when buying flat pack cages that they would all break in a month or so which is normally been the case.

But since using home and roost with them being A British made company everything Is a lot better quality all the panels are solid they are easy to put together but we definitely ordering more from you in the future❤️

Quality product, quality customer service!

We are extremely impressed with the service and products from Home & Roost. We were in urgent need of our new hutch, so upon speaking with customer service.

They arranged to send our hutch on an order separate to the rest of our ordered items, at no extra charge, so that we received it in time for our new bunny.

A quality product, with quality customer service.

High quality item with high quality service

Initial issue with delivery date, but this was sorted quickly and professionally. The catio is well made and survived all the storms we’ve had in the recent months - it never moved.

The quality is much higher than others I’ve seen, I would definitely recommend purchasing from them.
Excellent product and excellent service.

Great Value and the Birds Love It

I wasn’t expecting much for the price, but I’m genuinely really pleased with this bird table.

Delivery was fast, it was easy to set up, and it feels nice and sturdy. The quality is better than I expected and it looks great in the garden.

Best of all, the birds seem to love it — they were using it almost straight away. Really good value for money and I’d happily recommend it.

All Round Great Company

I ordered the wrong hutch (I wanted a double but ordered the 2 tier) and also without realising I ordered the wrong size vinyl flooring.

The warehouse staff anticipated I had made a mistake with the flooring size and sent the one I needed.

The after sales service was excellent with helping me get the hutch I wanted

Perfect

I ordered this for my husbands birthday. I have looked at many this was the best around It’s taller at 7ft and exceptionally well made.We have farm at the back of our house so it’s all open land.

During the heavy winds last week it stood strong and very sturdy. Delivery was on time and great customer service. Would defiantly recommend great craftsmanship 👍

My experience began badly but ended brilliantly!

After a hedgehog house failed to arrive within the stated 3–5 days and appeared stuck at the courier’s depot.

After three weeks, I contacted Home and Roost and received an immediate and apologetic response from James, who dispatched a replacement straight away, suspecting the original had been lost.

Two days later, a pristine replacement arrived!

I'm delighted with the level of customer service. I will be happy to return to Home and Roost in the future.

5+ stars

Order process was straightforward - initially hutch was shown on back order but it was fulfilled and dispatched earlier than website said

Regular updates for the delivery - so I was able to reschedule to a convenient date.
Sandhurst 5ft Double Hutch easy to put together was well made and solid - it's withstood the storm which occurred shortly after putting it up.

Couldn’t fail this company

Their website, delivery, instructions everything was beyond perfect. Note, wood is very strong so you will need a small drill. Can do by screwdriver though not recommended.

Hutch is beautiful and especially the design. Has allowed for me to keep my rabbits in a bigger hut outside and with three tiers, I have separated two of the rabbits that were fighting.

Also, they threw in a few Haroon packets so really nice surprise when you’re reading the instructions. Definitely using this company over pets at home from now on, wish I knew of you guys earlier!

Great product and fantastic customer service

Brilliant to find a Made in Britain company.

I can be pretty sure that the making processes will do least harm to the environment, help protect our wildlife and countryside, and support local UK businesses.

Something made in China probably fails to meet any ethical standards that we consider vital . Well done Home and Roost. I'll be back!

Message from a happy cat!

Hello, my name is Alice. I am a feral cat and I have a choice of 3 warm and cosy places to sleep and to shelter from the weather.

There are other feral cats close by who are my friends and they also have cosy shelters where they can be safe and warm. There is a person who lives in a much larger shelter and she feeds us and puts fresh straw into our little houses.

We have overheard her say that she buys our houses from a British company called Home and Roost. We think that the people at Home and Roost must know a lot about cats because they have created such perfect houses for us which they make in their own workshops in England.

Thank you and lots of love and happy meows from Alice & friends 😽

Every internet interaction we've had with Home and Roost has been marvellous. We have a neurodivergent daughter. Putting together a world for bunnies, is not a simple thing, but they have helped us at every step of the way. The website is clear, and efficient, for which we are really grateful to them. The customer service has been excellent, and the one problem we had with a product was resolved within a matter of days. So just generally a great company, with a great attitude and great products.

Service and professionalism

Great product and keenly priced, swift dispatch, but let down by the courier, who managed to damage a key component. A quick email exchange of some photos and Alan and his team had a replacement on its way the same day!! I cannot fault the service and professionalism of Home & Roost.

Great customer service

Great customer service, the cat house was initially for a pregnant stray, however we ended up finding her owner and the stray.... she's just fat not pregnant!, i think my cats and the neighbours catswill use it during summer.
Its made beautifully, great workmanship for an extremely reasonable price I like the fact it has legs to keep it off the ground, I put a water proof cover over it, although the house is waterproof I just want to give it extra protection.

Highly recommend home to roost if your looking for pet shelters etc.

High Quality Cat House and Excellent Customer Service

The Whitstable Cat House I ordered is beautifully designed and crafted. Unfortunately, our visiting cat would just not go inside. He is an outdoor cat and quite nervy so I guess he didn’t like the idea of being in his own house. Disappointing as it really is a lovely house, very solid and looks good.
I contacted Home & Roost to return it. James was wonderful to communicate with and arranged a home collection, soon after I received a full refund.
I highly recommend. The quality of cat houses is excellent and the customer service fantastic.

I was homeless but now I live in a palace

Got our local stray a wee house from Home and Roost — and I swear it’s nicer than anything I’ve ever lived in! 🐱🏡

Top quality, arrived faster than a cat sprinting for treats, and at a price that didn’t make my wallet cry. The stray’s moved in, claimed the deed, and now stares at me from their porch like they pay the mortgage. 😂

Honestly, can’t fault Home and Roost — brilliant service, cracking product, and one very smug cat who clearly knows they’ve upgraded.

Alan was fantastic!

I made a purchase and then I wanted to swap the order. Alan cancelled my order so I could then proceed to reorder with the item I now wanted to buy

I then realised one of the items was back ordered but couldn't wait for that to be fulfilled so Alan split the delivery and within minutes after his email I had a confirmation my order was dispatched!

Really friendly, really helpful, and actually the best customer service I have had in a long time. Alan and Home and Roost have been super accommodating

I most certainly will be ordering from them again

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

Is 12ft × 6ft enough space for my rabbits?

For a bonded pair, yes — and comfortably. The run section is 3.66m × 1.83m, which exceeds the RWAF welfare minimum of 3m × 2m × 1m. For a single rabbit, it's genuine luxury. For three or more, plan around bonding compatibility — the space itself is generous.

Where do my rabbits sleep at night?

Always in the built-in 6ft raised hutch shelter. The lockable enclosed landing platform inside is the secure overnight retreat RSPCA welfare guidelines call for. Lock the hutch door at dusk; the 12ft × 6ft run section is for daytime exercise only.

Is the Oxford Retreat fox-proof?

No outdoor enclosure is 100% fox-proof — we'd never claim ours is. What helps: multiple locking points, heavy-duty construction, the secure hutch component where your rabbits sleep, and adding an anti-dig skirt or sitting it on a concrete slab. Locking the hutch at dusk is the single biggest predator protection. See our fox-proof rabbit hutch guide for the full philosophy.

Does it need planning permission?

In most UK gardens, no. The Oxford Retreat's apex sits at 1.834m — under the 2.5m boundary threshold for outbuildings, which usually means permitted development. If you're in a conservation area, on listed-building curtilage, or right at your boundary in an unusual layout, check with your local council.

Is the TIMBAC® treatment safe for rabbits?

Yes. TIMBAC® is our pet-safe water-and-wax-based bactericidal preservative — safe for rabbits to live with from day one. It protects timber from moisture and rot without using anything harmful to your animals.

How is it delivered, and how heavy are the panels?

The Oxford Retreat ships flat-packed on a pallet (kerbside delivery, free across UK mainland, 1–2 week lead time). Each panel is heavy enough to need two people — please plan to have help for delivery and assembly. Maximum panel width is approximately 1.8m, which can be a tight fit through narrow garden gates; if your access is under 1m wide, measure your widest panel route before ordering.

How long does assembly take?

Plan for around 6 hours with two people, depending on experience. A standard screwdriver and socket set is enough; all fixings are included. The trickiest bit is lining up the large panels square — take your time. Site the enclosure on a level base (paving slabs, gravel, or a concrete pad) before assembly; uneven ground makes alignment much harder.

What's not included that I'll need?

We supply all panels, mesh, roof, doors, ramp with safety banister, and fixings. You'll want to source: a level base (paving slabs or concrete pad), and — if predator pressure is high in your area — either an anti-dig skirt around the perimeter or sitting the enclosure on a solid base. Perches and water bowls if not transferring from a previous setup.

What if I'm not happy with it?

You're covered by our 90-day no-quibble guarantee — far longer than the 30-day terms many large pet-housing sellers offer. Get in touch within 90 days and we'll arrange the return. The 2-year parts warranty covers manufacturing faults across timber and hardware.

Can my older or disabled rabbit manage the ramp?

The 1.7m ramp has an integrated safety banister and a gentle gradient — most owners of senior rabbits report theirs manage it without difficulty. If your rabbit has severe mobility issues, you can add grip strips or position bedding near the base of the ramp to encourage shorter trips. The hutch component is the destination, not a steep climb.
