A warm shelter for your cat all winter, without electricity bills or trailing wires
Handcrafted in Britain with self-heating insulation, a sealed weatherproof roof, and a raised base, every house is designed to keep your cat snug through the harshest British winters
The insulated roof and base reflect your cat's natural body heat back to them, creating a warm interior without any electricity, wires, or running costs. Once your cat settles inside, the enclosed space warms up quickly and stays cosy. For extra warmth on the coldest nights, you can add straw bedding or a self-heating pet pad — never blankets, as they absorb moisture and make the interior damp.
Is it really warm enough for the coldest winter nights?
Yes. The insulated roof and base retain heat far better than standard timber shelters, and the draught-free design stops cold air getting in. Most cats are comfortable inside even during frost and snow. On extremely cold nights, adding straw bedding boosts warmth further. If temperatures drop well below freezing for extended periods, consider bringing your cat indoors overnight.
Is it waterproof in heavy rain?
Yes. The roof is sealed and weatherproofed, and the raised base keeps groundwater from seeping up. The inside stays completely dry even after days of heavy rain. The treated timber is designed for permanent outdoor use in UK conditions and handles rain, frost, and snow without problems.
Will my cat actually use it?
Most cats take to it within a few days, especially once they discover it's warm and dry inside. Place familiar bedding or a worn item of your clothing inside to encourage them. Some cats are wary of the cat flap initially — you can prop it open or remove it completely until they're comfortable. Patience is key, but once they've found it, most cats return again and again.
Is it suitable for a stray or feral cat?
Yes — many of our customers buy these for strays and community cats they're caring for. Nervous cats may be wary of the cat flap, so you can remove it entirely and they'll still have excellent shelter from rain, wind, and cold. Place the house in a quiet, sheltered spot where the cat already feels comfortable and add straw bedding for extra warmth.
What bedding should I use inside?
Straw is the best option — it insulates well, stays dry, and doesn't absorb moisture. Avoid blankets, towels, and fleece as they soak up damp and can make the interior cold and wet. A self-heating pet pad is another good option for extra warmth. Replace straw bedding every few weeks or when it looks flat or dirty.
Is it big enough for two cats?
The standard size is designed for one cat to curl up comfortably. If you have two cats who like to snuggle together, the XL version offers more space. If your cats prefer their own territory, we'd recommend two separate houses — cats feel more secure in a shelter that's snug rather than oversized.
How do I clean it?
The hinged roof lifts up for easy access inside. Wipe down surfaces with a damp cloth and a mild pet-safe cleaner, and replace the bedding as needed. We recommend checking inside every few weeks, especially if the house is used by strays. A quick clean takes just a few minutes.
Will it last through multiple winters?
Yes. The treated timber and weatherproof construction are designed for year-round outdoor use in UK conditions. The raised base prevents damp damage from below, and the sealed roof handles everything British weather throws at it. With basic care — an annual wood treatment and occasional bedding change — it will last for years.
Does it come assembled?
The main house comes fully assembled. You just need to attach the legs, which takes about five minutes with the screws included. There's no complicated flat-pack assembly or specialist tools needed — it's ready to place in your garden, almost straight out of the box.

Wonderful product & great company
It was such a great experience!
I was concerned that it would not be possible for me, an 82yr old lady,no good at DIY. to put it together - but it just needed a Philips screwdriver and it was easy!
They were so helpful with advice and instruction and wow - British made - wonderful - superb bird feeder and cheap!

Both the hutch and run are fantastic
We purchased the 6ft Chartwell Double Rabbit Hutch along with the 6ft Heavy Duty Rabbit Run with Burrow Portal and Tunnel for our two rabbits.
Both the hutch and run are fantastic – excellent quality, very spacious for our bunnies, and easy to clean.
Thanks again, James!

Best hutches around
Best hutches and cat hideouts around I was led to believe when buying flat pack cages that they would all break in a month or so which is normally been the case.
But since using home and roost with them being A British made company everything Is a lot better quality all the panels are solid they are easy to put together but we definitely ordering more from you in the future❤️

Initial issue with delivery date, but this was sorted quickly and professionally. The catio is well made and survived all the storms we’ve had in the recent months - it never moved.

All Round Great Company
I ordered the wrong hutch (I wanted a double but ordered the 2 tier) and also without realising I ordered the wrong size vinyl flooring.
The warehouse staff anticipated I had made a mistake with the flooring size and sent the one I needed.
The after sales service was excellent with helping me get the hutch I wanted

Couldn’t fail this company
Their website, delivery, instructions everything was beyond perfect. Note, wood is very strong so you will need a small drill. Can do by screwdriver though not recommended.
Hutch is beautiful and especially the design. Definitely using this company over pets at home from now on, wish I knew of you guys earlier!

Great product and fantastic customer service
Brilliant to find a Made in Britain company. I can be pretty sure that the making processes will do least harm to the environment, help protect our wildlife and countryside, and support local UK businesses.
Something made in China probably fails to meet any ethical standards that we consider vital . Well done Home and Roost. I'll be back!

Solid well-made hutch
The order process was straightforward - initially, the hutch was shown as back-ordered, but it was fulfilled and dispatched earlier than the website said.
Regular updates for the delivery - so I was able to reschedule to a convenient date.

Great product and keenly priced, swift dispatch, but let down by the courier, who managed to damage a key component.
A quick email exchange of some photos and Alan and his team had a replacement on its way the same day!!
